A website’s security can be verified by an outside party using an SSL certificate. When a user connects to a site, it verifies the site’s SSL encryption strength and associates that SSL key with the site’s owner or operator. Any website that solicits customer information should implement SSL certification and validation.

When purchase SSL certificate, keep in mind that there are varying degrees of protection available to you and your website’s visitors.

Various SSL Certificates

Each SSL certificate has its own set of approval criteria. Here are the six that stand out the most:

SSL Certificates, Both Organization Validated and Extended Validation

The abbreviation for “Domain Validated SSL” is “DV SSL.”

Certificates for Unified Communications (UCC) • Wildcard SSL Certificates • Multi-Domain SSL Certificates (MDC)

SSL with extended validation

This SSL certificate is the highest quality option, but also the most expensive. It is often reserved for highly trafficked internet businesses that handle sensitive customer data and financial transactions. When this SSL certificate is installed, a padlock icon, “HTTPS,” the company name, and the country will appear in the browser’s address bar. In order to distinguish safe websites from malicious ones, you can use the search bar to look up the site’s owner. The website owner must go through a routine procedure to verify their identity and ownership of the domain before an EV SSL certificate may be issued.

Validated Organizational Server SSL Certificates

The website owner must go through a review process to receive this form of SSL certificate, that provides the level of protection as the EV SSL certificate. In addition to identifying legitimate websites, this license displays the website owner’s details in the browser’s address bar. OV SSL certificates are often the second most expensive after EV SSLs. Their primary use case is in business transactions where private user data must be protected.

“Domain Validated SSL” is an abbreviation for “Domain Validated SSL.”

Domain Validation SSL Certificates provide less privacy and security since they require less verification. Sites like these typically serve as online diaries or encyclopedic encyclopedias that don’t keep user information or process financial transactions. You may get this SSL certificate quickly and at a low cost.

SSL wildcard certificates.

You can protect a root domain and an unlimited number of child domains with a single wildcard SSL certificate. A Wildcard SSL certificate is a more cost-effective option than purchasing individual SSL certificates for each sub-domain that you need to protect. Wildcard SSL certificates feature an asterisk (*) in their common name, which represents all legitimate sub domains of the same base domain.

SSL Certificate for Multiple Domains (MDC).

A Multi-Domain certificate will allow you to secure a wide range of hostnames. All Top-Level Domains (TLDs) outside of the local/internal ones can be combined with each other.
