1: Find the Right Hair Care Routine

Every person’s hair is unique, so it’s important to find a hair care routine that is suited to your specific hair type. Start by selecting the appropriate shampoo and conditioner for your locks. When looking for these products, aim for gentler formulas that effectively cleanse your hair without stripping away its natural oils. The right combination of shampoo and conditioner will promote a healthy scalp and smooth strands.

2: Limit the Use of Heat Styling Tools

Excessive use of heat styling tools can damage your hair and lead to breakage, so try to give your hair a break from flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers whenever possible. You may find that your hair becomes healthier and happier with less heat, and it also allows you to explore fun hairstyles or embrace your natural hair texture.

If you do use heat styling tools, take measures to protect your hair. Apply a generous amount of heat protectant spray before styling to minimize damage, and use the lowest heat setting whenever feasible.

3: Practice Gentle Brushing

Contrary to popular belief that brushing your hair excessively leads to healthier and shinier locks, excessive brushing can actually have the opposite effect. Brushing your hair vigorously puts stress and friction on the strands, leading to unnecessary breakage.

When brushing, be gentle, especially when dealing with stubborn knots. Take the time to work them out with gentle strokes instead of tugging forcefully. Avoid aggressive brushing when your hair is wet, as it is more prone to breakage. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb to carefully detangle your hair after showering without causing damage.

4: Shield Your Hair from the Sun

Like your skin, your hair can suffer damage from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, resulting in dryness, color fading, and brittleness. When spending extended periods outdoors in the sun, wear a hat or use a UV protective spray to keep your hair hydrated and healthy.
