Top-ranked Ash Barty withdrew from the Sydney Tennis Classic after winning both the singles and doubles titles at the Adelaide International. Now she will go straight to Melbourne for the Australian Open. Going straight from Adelaide to Melbourne is easy anyway and she wants to come off fresh in the first Grand Slam of the year starting on January 17.

“It’s been an extraordinary week. We played a lot of singles and doubles matches and spent a lot of time on the court. Preparations are good for Australia Open,” she said on Monday. Barty defeated Elena Rybakina 6-3, 6-2 to win the Adelaide International singles title. In doubles, he won the title with Storm Sanders.

On Monday, Nick Kyrgios also withdrew from the tournament in Sydney due to Corona virus infection and it is also doubtful to play in the Australian Open starting next Monday. Kyrgios wrote on Instagram, “I want to be transparent with everyone. The reason for my withdrawal from the Sydney tournament is because I have been found to be Covid positive.”
