New Delhi. The Union Home Ministry on Friday rubbished the apprehensions expressed in a tweet by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal that he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and removed the Punjab Governor from the post of Chandigarh Administrator. He urged to review the decision of the Central Government to appoint a full-fledged Administrator for this Union Territory.
A Home Ministry spokesperson further said, “It is clarified that the Center has not taken any decision to remove the Governor of Punjab from the responsibility of Administrator of Chandigarh and no such proposal is under consideration.” Along with this, he also said in clear words that Sukhbir Singh Badal has not raised this issue with the Home Minister. It is noteworthy that at present the Governor of Punjab also holds the charge of Administrator of Chandigarh.
In fact, a day ago it was reported that Sukhbir Singh Badal has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review the decision of the Central Government to appoint a full administrator for Chandigarh. Badal, during his meeting with Shah on Wednesday evening, termed it as yet another attempt to undermine Punjab’s claim on the capital city of Chandigarh.
The SAD chief had said that Chandigarh is an inseparable part of Punjab and it should be transferred to its parent state at the earliest. Badal had apprised the Union Home Minister that there was no reason for the Union Territory to appoint a full-fledged administrator from outside the state. Badal had also told Shah that all the decisions taken during the reorganization of Punjab were being violated one by one.
