Cincinnati Masters : Borna Coric has won the Cincinnati Masters title by making a big upset. The 25-year-old Borna Coric of Croatia surprised everyone by defeating fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in a one-sided match in the title match. Borna Coric, who returned a year after recovering from a shoulder injury, impressed throughout the tournament. The world ranked 152 defeated the star Greek in straight sets 7-6 (7/0) and 6-2. With this win, Coric has become the lowest ranked player to win the Masters Trophy.

Expressing his feelings after the win, Borna Coric said, “To be honest, I have no words. It’s a wonderful feeling. I am going to enjoy it.” He further added that I thought I could play well. I had worked hard in training and I knew I could play a good tennis but I needed to play tennis at this level. Didn’t expect it. I am really very happy.

Second win against Tsitsipas

Coric also improved his record against Tsitsipas by defeating him. This is his second win in three matches against a Greek player. He had previously retired in Rome in 2018, while at the US Open in 2020, he defeated Tsitsipas in the third round tie-breaker in a five-set match.

In the women’s section, qualifier Caroline Garcia won the WTA Cincinnati Masters title. She defeated Petra Kvitova 6-2 in the title match. 6-4 to win their third Masters Level title. This was the overall 10th title of the French player.
