Genome Sequencing Laboratory: Mumbai has got its first genome sequencing laboratory. Through this genome sequencing machine, new variants of Covid-19 can be tracked within two to three days. This is a new facility established at Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai that can analyze a large number of samples in a short time and can also identify new mutants of corona.
2 machines of genome sequencing have been made with high technology. It will be used the most in the corona epidemic. This machine can test new variants of Corona and after the results can give complete information about the new variants. On August 4, the Chief Minister had inaugurated this laboratory online. At the same time, today the Mayor of Mumbai came to visit this laboratory.
self dependent
Mumbai Municipal Corporation Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that BMC has now become completely self-sufficient in providing health facilities to the citizens. At the same time, the tests to be done in the laboratory of genome sequencing will help BMC to track new variants of corona. The US-based Illumina Company, through the Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG-Boston), has donated two genome sequencing plants to BMC for a total cost of Rs 640 million.
Dr. Jayanti Shastri, in-charge of the Genome Sequencing Laboratory located at Kasturba Hospital, says that these machines will be especially useful for those areas of Mumbai, where there will be the highest number of corona cases. Samples of people present in the hotspot area will be taken and in this machine 384 samples can be taken in one sale. At the same time, its results will also come in 3-4 days.
