New Delhi. The giant tech company Google fired dozens of employees between the years 2018 and 2020 for alleged data misuse. Data from the company’s internal investigation on employees has come to light through a leaked document obtained by Motherboard. The company had fired several employees for breach/misuse of user data.
According to the document, 86 per cent of all allegations centered around misuse of confidential information, including the transfer of information to other parties. In the year 2020, 36 employees were terminated and 10 per cent cases were related to mishandling of the system.
26 employees were fired in the year 2019 and 18 in the year 2018.
This includes allowing unauthorized access to third parties, modifying or deleting employee data, and accessing user data in nefarious ways. Compared to the year 2020, 13 per cent of the allegations in the year 2019 were of security breaches. In the year 2019, 26 people lost their jobs and in the year 2018, 18 people were fired.
Speaking anonymously with the publication, the leaker told Motherboard that Google may take other steps, including training, coaching and serious warnings, with the accused. In a statement to the publication, a Google spokesperson said, “Most cases relate to proprietary and sensitive corporate information or misuse of IP.”
