Shillong: The latest incident of violence came to light during the curfew in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong on Tuesday. Unknown miscreants pelted stones at his convoy leaving Governor Satya Pal Malik at the airport in Assam. An official of Raj Bhavan gave this information. The Governor boarded the plane for Delhi and has reached there safely.

“Unknown miscreants pelted stones at a convoy of cars returning from Assam in Mawlai area of ​​the city,” the official said. Some vehicles were damaged in the attack, but there were no casualties.

In Meghalaya, violence erupted in Mawlai and Jaya areas of Shillong on August 15, following the death of former extremist leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew in an alleged police encounter, following which curfew was imposed in the state. Thangkhiew had surrendered in 2018 and was allegedly involved in the August 10 IED blast.

Thangkhiew was killed in an encounter when he tried to attack a police party with a knife during raids at his house in connection with the serial IED blasts in the state.
