Jasprit Bumrah has created history. He has become the first fast bowler to captain Team India after 35 years. Regular captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the fifth rescheduled Test match of the series between India and England. Confirming this news, the BCCI also announced the appointment of Bumrah as the captain. Rohit’s Kovid test was done in Birmingham on Thursday in which his result came positive, after which the Indian board handed over the command of the team to Bumrah.

Bumrah becomes first fast bowler after Kapil Dev to become captain of India

Jasprit Bumrah will be the second fast bowler in the history of Indian cricket to captain the Indian team. Before him, there was a fast bowler who captained Team India, the great all-rounder Kapil Dev. Under Kapil’s captaincy, the Indian team won the Cricket World Cup for the first time in 1983. He captained the team from the 1982/83 season to the 1987 team. Under Kapil’s captaincy, the Indian team played 108 international matches, including Tests and ODIs, out of which 43 matches were won, 40 matches were lost, one match was tied, 22 matches ended in draws and two matches were inconclusive.

Similar position of Kapil and Bumrah while taking over the captaincy

Kapil Dev had no experience of captaincy in the year 1982. Many people were surprised when he was chosen as the captain, but under his captaincy, the Indian team played its sting all over the world. After 40 years, another fast bowler of the team is in the same situation. Although Bumrah is being made the caretaker captain for only one match, but this thing is not going down the throat of many people.
