Maharashtra Covid-19 Cases: 5,508 new cases of corona, 151 deaths, 45 confirmed cases of Delta Plus

Mumbai: On Sunday, 5,508 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Maharashtra while 151 patients died in a day. With this, the total number of infected and dead increased to 63,53,327 and 1,33,996 respectively. The State Health Department gave this information. The department said that 4,895 patients became infection free during the day, after which the total number of recovered people increased to 61,44,388. 71,510 Covid patients are undergoing treatment in the state.

The recovery rate in Maharashtra is 96.71 percent and the death rate is 2.1 percent. On Sunday, 305 cases of infection were reported in Mumbai and nine people died. With this, the total number of infected people in the city increased to 7,37,497 and the number of dead increased to 15,951.

Most cases in Mumbai

In Mumbai division, 802 cases of infection were reported and 25 people died. On the other hand, 867 cases were reported in Nashik division, 2,194 in Pune division, 1,267 in Kolhapur division, 37 in Aurangabad division, 299 in Latur division, 22 in Akola division and 20 in Nagpur division.

Along with this, the Health Department also gave great information about Delta Plus cases. The department said that a total of 45 cases of delta plus form of corona virus infection have been reported during ‘Genome Sequencing’ in Maharashtra. According to the report, one person infected with Delta Plus virus has died.

Danger of Delta Plus in Jalgaon

Of the total cases of Delta Plus, 13 such patients have been reported in Jalgaon in north Maharashtra while 11 in Ratnagiri in coastal Konkan region. The department said in a statement, β€œIn 80 percent of the samples sent for genome sequencing, the infection of the delta plus form (of the corona virus) was confirmed. Of the 45 patients, 13 are from Jalgaon, 11 from Ratnagiri, six from Mumbai, five from Thane, three from Pune and one each from Palghar, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Beed.

The department has received information about 35 patients out of these 45 samples, the statement said. One patient died while mild and moderate symptoms have been reported in the rest of the patients. The exact number and timing of samples sent for genome sequencing were not disclosed.
