The Indian challenge has come to an end after the defeat of PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy in the Malaysia Open badminton. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, lost to defending champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles quarterfinals on Friday. Whereas in the men’s section, H Prannoy Prannoy also crashed out after losing his match in the quarterfinals.

Seventh seed Sindhu could not maintain her momentum after winning the first game against Tokyo Olympic silver medalist and second seed Ying and went down 21-13, 15-21, 13-21. After this victory, Ying further strengthened his dominance on this top player of India. Sindhu has lost to Ying for the sixth consecutive match. The win-loss record of both has also been in Ying’s favor by a huge margin of 16-5. Ying made the move to avoid the title as he reached the semi-finals.

In the men’s quarterfinals, Prannoy lost 18-21, 16-21 to Jonathan Christie. Prannoy gave a tough fight to Christie in the opening game but in the second game, he could not keep the momentum going and lost in straight sets that lasted 44 minutes. With their defeat, the Indian challenge in this Super 750 event also ended.
