Neeraj Chopra : Olympic champion and India’s gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has recovered from a minor groin injury sustained last month. Golden boy Neeraj is now all set to take part in the Diamond League tournament on 26 August in Lausanne, Switzerland. A good performance in Lausanne could ensure Chopra a place in the Diamond League final in Zurich on September 7 and 8, as he is currently fourth in the table. The top six players in the table will advance to the final in Zurich.

The Lausanne competition is the last stage to include the men’s javelin throw event. Chopra, 24, suffered an injury while winning a historic silver medal in the final of the World Championships in Eugene, USA, on July 24, prompting him to pull out of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Chopra was advised four weeks’ rest by the medical team after which he withdrew from the Games just two days before the start of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (July 28 to August 8). He then went through rehabilitation in Germany.

Neeraj Chopra himself gave information

Chopra tweeted, “Feeling strong and ready for Friday. Thanks everyone for the support. See you at Lausanne.” Athletics Federation of India president Adille Sumariwalla had said that Chopra would compete in Lausanne if he was “medically fit”. Chopra, who made it to the podium for the first time on 30 June in the Stockholm stage, is fourth on the table with seven points.

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Yakub Vadlech of the Czech Republic is leading with 20 points. Germany’s Julian Weber has 19 points while world champion Grenada’s Andersen Peters has 16 points. A groin injury may have hampered Chopra’s preparations but he could be aiming for a maiden Diamond League title as his opponents are not as strong as they were at the Stockholm stage in the six-player event in Lausanne.
