New Delhi. Instant messaging app WhatsApp has made a new update in its payment feature. To make its payment service fun, WhatsApp has introduced a new payment background feature. WhatsApp users will now be able to add payment background while sending money to their friends from the app. The special thing is that this feature is only for Indian users.
The payment background feature of Facebook-owned WhatsApp is similar to the payments background feature of the payments app Google Pay. Please note that users of Google Pay can include different backgrounds while transferring funds.
Talking about this feature, Manesh Mahatme, Director, WhatsApp Payments said, “WhatsApp is a safe place where people can talk to their friends and family, express their thoughts and feelings. Now with a payments background, it is our endeavor to make transactions through WhatsApp attractive.”
Mahatme said, “We believe that transferring and receiving money is much more than just a transaction. We are always ready to make this experience more amazing through new features.”
UPI payment was allowed in November 2020
WhatsApp got approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in November 2020 to facilitate payments through UPI. However, approval was given for a phased rollout of WhatsApp Pay, which started with only 20 million users. According to NPCI data, 4.7 lakh UPI transactions worth Rs 45.33 crore were done through WhatsApp Pay in July 2021.
