Qualcomm Fastest Processor : Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 system-on-chip (SoC) during its annual Qualcomm Summit 2022 in Hawaii, US. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is an upgraded version of last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is 4.35 times faster than the previous processor.
The newly launched chipset also supports INT4, which the company says works on an AI that delivers up to 90 percent better performance than before with up to 60 percent better performance per watt. Apart from this, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor also has the capability of up to 45 percent better power efficiency than the Qualcomm Adreno GPU.
Availability of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC
As far as availability is concerned, Qualcomm said at its ongoing summit in Hawaii that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will be available on devices including Asus Republic of Gamers, Honor, iQoo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Redmagic, Redmi, Sony Corporation, Vivo, Xiaomi, Xinji / Meizu, and ZTE companies’ smartphones. The company also said that the devices powered by this newly launched chipset will be available in the market by the end of 2022.
Features of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC
Talking about the features, Qualcomm has made many major improvements in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. The first is, as the company states, Qualcomm is smart. The chipmaker said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset comes with Qualcomm AI Engine which is coupled with an advanced Qualcomm Hexagon processor. Along with that they get multi-language translation and advanced AI camera features. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also packs the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which now packs Dual AI processors. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC Specifications
The 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 process houses the 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPU which clocks speeds of up to 3.2GHz. This CPU is coupled with Qualcomm Kryo CPU and Qualcomm Adreno GPU and Qualcomm Hexagon processor which comes with Fused-AI-Accelerator architecture. It also packs the Sensing Hub, which includes the dual-core AI processor and the always-on sensing camera.
In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor includes the Snapdragon X70 5G modem that offers peak download speeds of 10Gbps and peak upload speeds of 3.5Gbps. This modem supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks with global 5G multi-SIM, dual-SIM dual-active (DSDA) 5G+5G and 5G+4G. The chipset also includes Qualcomm FastConnect 7800, which supports Wi-Fi 7 with a top speed of 5.8 Gbps, Bluetooth 5.3 with Bluetooth LE audio features, Dual Bluetooth, and Snapdragon Sound technology. In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also supports BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS, and India’s NavIC. NFC, USB 3.1 and USB-C can also be used in this.
