Mumbai: Hours after Union Minister Narayan Rane paid homage at the memorial of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, Shiv Sainiks washed the site with cow urine. Along with this, to purify him, he was anointed with milk.
Rane’s decision to visit the memorial was earlier opposed by some Shiv Sena leaders. After Rane’s visit, local Shiv Sena worker Appa Patil washed the spot where Rane had paid homage to Thackeray with gaumutra and then anointed his statue with milk.
This place had become impure due to his arrival – Patil
Patil told reporters, “Rane had come here to pay tribute to Balasaheb, but at the same time he criticized the party he has founded. This place had become impure due to his arrival, so we wanted to clean it.”
Rane was earlier in Shiv Sena and has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Later he left the party and joined Congress and in 2019 he joined BJP. Recently, after joining the Union Cabinet, he started the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Mumbai.
Bal Thackeray will never bless people like Rane
Shiv Sena’s local MP Vinayak Raut said that Bal Thackeray would never bless people like Rane. Raut had said on Wednesday that Shiv Sainiks would not allow the Union minister to visit the memorial as he had broken the party founded by Thackeray, but Shiv Sena workers did not stage any protest during Rane’s visit.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized the act of washing the memorial of Shiv Sena workers. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Praveen Darekar said Bal Thackeray is not anybody’s “private property”. Another BJP leader Ashish Shelar said that Shiv Sena should stop such ‘gimmicks’.
