Nathan Lyon made a tremendous performance for Australia in the first Test match of the series against Sri Lanka in Galle. In this match, kangaroo spinner Lyon took a total of nine wickets in his name and put Australia’s win in the bag. He achieved the 20th five-wicket haul of his career in the first innings.
In the second innings too, he reached close to the fifth wicket but missed touching this figure by just one wicket. On the basis of this brilliant performance of Lyon, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets within three days. Apart from Sri Lanka, an Indian cricketer will also be worried about his bowling and excellent rhythm. Lion has raised alarm bells for Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with his performance.
Lyon in danger of Ashwin’s record
By taking nine wickets in Galle Test, Lyon has come closer to Ashwin. Now there is only a gap of six wickets between the kangaroo spinner and the Indian legend. Lyon’s performance in Galle has taken his wickets in 109 Tests to 436. On the other hand, Ashwin has 442 wickets in 86 Tests. That is, Lyon can equal Ashwin’s wickets by taking six more wickets.
Lyon has a chance to overtake Ashwin
Australia has to play the second Test match of the series against Sri Lanka from July 8 at the same ground in Galle. Once again on a spin assisted wicket, the kangaroo spinner will have full opportunity to fill his bag with wickets. If Lyon weaves a similar web of spin in the next match, he can cross Ashwin’s 442-wicket mark. Ashwin is not included in the Indian playing XI for the fifth Test against England.
