East Delhi Premier League: BJP MP from East Delhi and former India opener Gautam Gambhir is planning to organize a T20 cricket tournament soon. Teams from 10 constituencies of East Delhi will participate in this and this tournament will be played at Yamuna Sports Complex. According to Gambhir, the name of this tournament will be East Delhi Premier League and it will start in the last week of October and will be played till November. Also, players from 17 to 36 years of age will be seen playing in this tournament.
According to the Indian Express, in this tournament, teams will be selected after trials from Jangpura, Okhla, Trilokpuri, Kondli, Patparganj, Laxmi Nagar, Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Krishna Nagar and Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi. The responsibility of selecting players for these teams in the trials has been given to three former Indian cricketers.
Gambhir told that, “Players from the age of 17 to 36 years will be able to participate in this tournament. Trial will be organized to select the team from each constituency. Players who have played cricket at international level will select these teams. During the trial, full care will be taken of transparency. Players will be able to play in this tournament only from the team of their constituency.
There will be auction for the team
Along with this, Gambhir told that there will also be an auction of teams for this tournament. “Every team will be auctioned from a fixed base price. Whatever money comes from the sponsor will be used to provide facilities to the players of the team,” he said. He also said, “The objective of this tournament is to give a good experience and opportunity to the people of the region to play cricket. During this, all the facilities will be provided to the talented players who will come forward to move ahead in cricket.”
Regarding the presence of spectators during the tournament, Gautam Gambhir said that it would depend on the situation of Corona at that time. Also he said that this tournament will be on the lines of IPL. In this too, like IPL, all these sponsors, team jerseys and mentors will be present.
