Mahashivratri is an important Hindu festival celebrated every year in honor of Lord Shiva. It is celebrated on the 13th night of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Phalguna. On the day of Mahashivratri, Hindus around the world will visit temples to offer prayers and perform special pujas and rituals. People will also gather in large numbers at the banks of rivers and sacred places to perform the ‘Mahamrityunjay Jaap’. Devotees will also chant the ‘Mahamrityunjay Mantra’ 108 times and offer flowers, fruits and sweets to Lord Shiva.

Devotees offer various offerings to Lord Shiva on the day of Mahashivratri. These include milk, honey, water, fruits, flowers, incense sticks and bel leaves. Devotees also offer special delicacies like ‘thandai’, ‘bhang’ and ‘prasad’ to Lord Shiva.
