Vikram Batra was born on September 9, 1974, in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. He was an army officer of the Indian Army and a captain in the 13 Jat Regiment of the Indian Army. He was known for his courage and valor in the Kargil War. He was conferred with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor, posthumously for his bravery.
Unsung Hero of Kargil War
Vikram Batra was sent to the Kargil War in 1999 and was given the responsibility of recapturing the peaks of Tololing and Point 5140. In this mission, he successfully captured Point 5140 on June 18, 1999. He was injured in the process but he continued to lead his team. On July 7, 1999, he recaptured the peak of Tololing. He was killed in action while trying to recapture Point 4875 on July 7, 1999.
